Apology of Socrates: help with transcription

Post by Carolus Raeticus »

Salvete,

I need your help with the transcription of a Greek passage from an introduction to Plato's "Apology of Socrates" (I am using it for my transcription of a Latin translation of the same text).

In it there are two Greek words I do not know how to deal with: I seem to be unable to create these using TypeGreek. The original passage can be found on this Archive.org-page. I transcribed it like this:
Anytus must have classed Socr. with the Sophists, and his opinion of them may be gathered from Plato, Meno 91 B, where Socr. says, {GREEK} δήπου καὶ σὺ ὅτι οῦτοι εἰσὶν {GREEK} οἱ ἄνθρωποι καλοῦσι σοφιστάς, and Anytus answers, Ήράκλεις, εὐφήμει, ῶ Σώκρατες μηδένα τῶν συγγενῶν μήτε οἰκείων μήτε φίλων μήτε ἀστῶν μήτε ξένων, τοιαύτη μανία λάβοι ὥστε παρὰ τούτους ἐλφόντα λωβηφῆναι, ἐπεὶ οῦτοί γε φανερά ἐστι λώβη τε καὶ διαφθορà τῶν συγγιγνομένων.
Can you tell me what these two words should be? Thanks in advance,

Carolus Raeticus

I typed them with TypeGreek

oi(=sqa --> οἶσθα --> novisti
oi(/ous --> οἵους --> quales

You have some errors in your transcription:

οῦτοι -- You need a rough breathing mark (same for οῦτοί later)
Ήράκλεις -- The first mark should be a rough breathing, not an acute accent
ῶ -- Needs a breathing mark
διαφθορà -- that's not an alpha at the end

Perseus has a text of Meno available online, if you want to copy and paste anything:

http://perseus.uchicago.edu/perseus-cgi ... Men.%2091b
“One might get one’s Greek from the very lips of Homer and Plato." "In which case they would certainly plough you for the Little-go. The German scholars have improved Greek so much.”
