I am looking for bibliography

Post by hmederos22 »

Good afternoon,

I am looking for bibliography on a certain topic: the usage of Ancient Greek verbs. I would like to know if there are either dictionaries or specialised books that explain somehow the syntactical constructions that may be found in Ancient Greek. I know that the Greeks make this kind of books, but I do not know if this kind of books exists as well in the English-speaking world.

May you help with suggestions any books?

Any of the standard ancient Greek grammars will get you there, Smyth, Goodwin, or the recently published Cambridge Grammar of Classical Greek. Specifically on verb usage, I recently read The Syntax and Semantics of the Verb in Classical Greek: An Introduction: Third Edition by Rijksbaron, and it's outstanding, https://tinyurl.com/y2a3nk9m. Older but still valuable (it doesn't take into account recent advances in linguistics) is Goodwin's Moods and Tenses, https://tinyurl.com/y4dvf5ky. Others may know of other works, but that should get you started.
