Readable copies of four important 16th century publications posted

Post by almound »

I have posted four 16th century publications at https://archive.org/details/@almound. The scans of these pdf's are complete and clear, not mangled, and have been enhanced to make them clean and readable. (They are NOT OCR'd, however.) You will need a guide to ancient greek abbreviations (that by William Ingram, say).

These are 1) the 1546 edition of Thesaurus linguae latinae by Robert Estienne (Robertus Stephanus), 2) the 1573 edition of the Thesaurus linguae latinae, 3) the 1572 edition of Thesaurus Graecae Linguae by Henri Estienne (Henricus Stephanus), and also 4) the 1580 edition.

This effort is to aid modern scholars to verify the 19th century edition of Estienne's Thesaurus Graecae Linguae published by Didot and Valpy. While for the most part faithful to the 16th century text, occasionaly the 19th century editions omit words as seemingly insignificant or redundant (such as "apud").

Note that material added by Didot or Valpy in the 19th century is contained within square brackets. Also, that the 16th century volumes are semi-alphabetical in layout (they are thesauri, not dictionaries.)
Greek and artificial intelligence ... who knew?
