JWW excercise 266.

Post by Hammurabi »

Hi you budies!!

:D :D I'm keeping going witth the book :P

Everything has been done by the generals
1. πεποίκασιν οἱ στ?ατηγοὶ πᾶν.
All the soldiers were proceeding willingly.
2. πάντες οἱ στ?ατιώται ἑκὼν πο?ε?οντο.
The gifts of the satrap were all beautiful.
3. πάντα τὰ τοῦ σατ?άπου δῶ?α καλὰ ἦν.
Afterwards all the guards were drawn up.
4. ὕστε?ον δὲ πάντες οἱ φ?λακεσ τεταγμένοι ἦσαν.
The entire army proceedend trough the plain twenty-five parasangs.
5. διὰ δὲ τοῦ πεδίου πᾶν τὸ στ?άτευμα πα?ασάγγας εἴκοσι καὶ πέντε πο?ε?σατο.

I have one more question:
In Wherlock's latin there is a syntaxis guide...I mean a ¨nice way¨to order words, it is:
1. subject and modifiers.
2. indirect object
3. direct object.
4. adverbial forms and phrases.
5. the verb.

Is there any formula like this in ancient greek, I mean not a "real" rule but a simple guide to order the words within the sentence.

:D :D thanx very much in advance for your help and time

Well done ! Accent is near perfect !

Everything has been done by the generals
1. πεποίκασιν οἱ στ?ατηγοὶ πᾶν. Here you used the active voice, but the same meaning can be expressed in the passive :
πάντα (rather plural) πεποίηται ὑπὸ τῶν στ?ατηγῶν.
All the soldiers were proceeding willingly.
2. πάντες οἱ στ?ατιώται ἑκὼν πο?ε?οντο.
πάντες οἱ στ?ατιῶται (circumflex) ἕκοντες (in the plural nominative) ?πο?εύοντο (don’t forget the augment).
The gifts of the satrap were all beautiful.
3. πάντα τὰ τοῦ σατ?άπου δῶ?α καλὰ ἦν. Tadaa ! Wonderful ! :)
Afterwards all the guards were drawn up.
4. ὕστε?ον δὲ πάντες οἱ φ?λακες τεταγμένοι ἦσαν. (means rather « had been drawn up », so I would rather use an aorist here, i. e. ?τάχθησαν)
The entire army proceedend trough the plain twenty-five parasangs.
5. διὰ δὲ τοῦ πεδίου πᾶν τὸ στ?άτευμα πα?ασάγγας εἴκοσι καὶ πέντε πο?ε?σατο. (augment is lacking. Otherwise you built a correct first aorist middle, but unfortunately, according to the principal parts, the aorist from πο?εύομαι is a passive one : ?πο?εύθην, so here ?πο?εύθησαν)
