Jerome and the Lion Latin

Post by Jim Bryan »

There is a fable about Jerome and the lion. I think could make a great simple Latin story. I have searched the net and can't find any Latin versions of the story. Has anyone seen a Latin version of the story?

It’s a very old tale, probably transferred to Jerome (Geronimus) from Gerasimus, based in turn on the fable of Androcles and the lion. There must be lots of Latin versions. Check Laura Gibbs’ Aesop’s Fables.

Since I have Laura Gibb's Aesop's Fables, I looked. There are quite a few tales starring a lion, but none that I can see with the Jerome theme. To wit: De leaena et vulpe; De leone amatorio; De leone et mure; De asino leonis pelle induto; De leone sene; De leone et urso; De leone, asino, et gallo; De leone et quattuor tauris; De leone et quibusdam aliis quadrupedibus.
