Roman song

Post by testsuda »

Dear all,

I am very curious about whether the Roman had songs or not, and is there any their songs that have been preserved to us now?

If the answer is Yes, please kindly show me the link

Sincerely yours,

I don't know about Roman songs, but while you're waiting for the answer from someone who knows, you might enjoy this ancient Greek song, the song of Seikilos. It's the oldest surviving entire song in the world.

There are quite different recorded versions you can find on Youtube, since no one knows how it's supposed to be performed exactly. Enjoy!

Synaulia is a group that has done research into ancient Greek and Roman music and has made some music meant to reproduce what it may have sounded like.
