Vocabulary Drill Program for White?
I am going through White's "First Greek Book" on my own since there is no running study group operating at this time. Is there a free program that exists to download vocabulary drills of White's Lessons? If not, any advice as to what way is best to write one so others would benefit? I would not mind taking the time to put together a vocabulary drill program based on White's Lessons.

First Greek book
When you say vocabulary drills, what do you mean exactly? In what type of format would it exist? This reminds me a bit of using flashcards to learn vocabulary.

I have a Java program...
...if that's any use to you. I wrote it so that I could test my vocab from time to time. It requires a vocabulary list (I just add to mine as I reach new sections in the book and learn new words), and it's a bit rough and ready, but it does the job.
If you want it, post your e-mail address and I'll send you a copy (plus source code, if you want) with more accurate instructions on how to use it.

BYKI
There's a fairly flexible computerized flash card program called Before You Know It (BYKI). It has several different review options, as well as sound. There is a free version that contains several dozen example flash cards, including Latin. I didn't see any Greek. Supposedly, if you purchase the full version, you can make your own flashcard sets and share them with others, but I haven't tried it yet.
I am making an answer key for White's, here:
http://www.rustymason.com/edu/lang/gree ... k_key.html
but my progress is very slow. At the heading of each chapter, there is a link for the vocabulary to date. Here's an example file:
http://www.rustymason.com/edu/lang/gree ... b_010.html
This is probably not what you're looking for, but I thought I'd just tell you about it. If you cannot read the greek characters or if you find any mistakes I'd really appreciate knowing so I can fix 'em.

You can download Mounce's "Teknia Language Tools" or "Flashworks" and create your own database as you work through White's book. It works with Unicode also, not just with his font.Pros wrote:Dimitri,
Specifically, I meant a simple flashcard program that I or anyone else could access by clicking on a link to a web page. Vocabulary flashcard programs exist for Classical Greek on the web but not for the lessons in White's book unfortunately. Thanks for your question.

Re: Vocabulary Drill Program for White?
Rusty,
Thanks for a most beautiful and useful site. But on your Greek Accents Page...
καλή + κώμην = καλὴ κώμην
"καλὴ κώμην" strikes me as a bit weird grammatically (nom adj + acc noun?).
Please excuse quibble.
Cheers,
Int

Ack! You're right, that's an error. It should be καλὴ κώμη. Thanks for catching that and for your kind words. I'll fix it this week, after I discover why my FTP connection is suddenly not working.

Re: Vocabulary Drill Program for White?
I've been creating a deck as I go through the book, using the Anki flashcard software (http://ankisrs.net/). This software uses an algorithm to space out when you'll see a card next based on how easy or hard it was for you, which speeds up learning.
You can also use the tags I've put on the cards to specify which lessons you want to study.
I'm only up to Lesson 8, but you can find my deck at https://ankiweb.net/shared/info/907578404
