Unde venistis? Qui responderunt: De terra Chanaan, ut emamus victui necessaria.

Emo appears to take an accusative object, so that explains necessaria, but what about victui? What case would it be? Thank you.

I think I understand what you mean, that victui depends from necessaria. In other words... "From the land of Chanann, that we may purchase necessary things for food. (A&G #382 perhaps)

Yes, I took this as the dative of purpose, section 382 of A&G.

It seems to me something like "necessities for life" or "necessities for survival", which might mean food, clothing, etc.
